The case for hope

Jennifer’s Story

You have brain cancer, we need to get you to the hospital right away.

Probably the scariest words one could ever imagine hearing.

No sympathy or cause for concern. Just the facts.

Unfortunately, that’s exactly the news Jennifer Dickenson received after an MRI in 2011.

Pre-cancer, Jennifer lived a life that many of us do. Career first, long hours, not enough time with family and friends, very little sleep, some exercise, but not enough.

She was the personification of the American dream. Successful by most of the things we use to measure.

Jennifer soon was told that her cancer was stage 4. Pretty much as bad as it gets. Statistically a death sentence.

But this is a story of healing on one's own terms. Very soon after getting the horrific news, Jennifer started taking control of her life and her health.

During our conversation, Jennifer shares things we can all do to fight back against the toxins in our lives (even if we don’t have stage 4 cancer).

Things like…

  • Learning to breathe…deeply

  • Getting a (really) good night’s sleep

  • Drinking clean water

  • Getting sugar out of our diet

  • Finding joy in music

  • Leaning into support

  • Listening to spiritual messages we often ignore

If you are feeling stressed or not on your game, this is a conversation worth your time.

It struck a chord with me because I lived Jennifer’s life of stress, working too many hours, and ignoring the signs that were in front of me.

Noodle on…

As you listen to my conversation with Jennifer, think about 3 questions:

  • What is underneath the constant need for more? More money, bigger house, fancy car, a career worthy bragging about.

  • What would it take to convince you that work is consuming your life, that you are stressed out, and that all of it is negatively impacting your health?

  • How can you use the tools that Jennifer discusses to live a better life?

Here’s a brief overview…

In 2011, Jennifer Dickenson was a busy lawyer when she was diagnosed with grade 4 brain cancer and given scant hope for survival. But she started looking for hope anyway and discovered the magnificent ways in which we can heal through the mind, body and spirit.

As a result of her own healing process, she became compelled to share the information she learned with as many people as possible. The Case for Hope is an encouraging, easy-to-read, informative book, filled with tools in support of those fighting cancer, illness, or those just looking to live a better life.

We can heal. Sometimes we just need a path to follow.
